UniEd, PE2 forge partnership for EE career development
MANDALUYONG CITY, 14 May 2026 – Unilab Education (UniEd) and the Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance (PE2) signed today a partnership agreement for the purpose of developing activities in energy efficiency (EE) career services, development and placement.
The executed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) is a product of discussions between the two organizations which began on 30 September 2025 when PE2 explained to UniEd officials that EE service providers, especially energy service companies (ESCOs), are faced with manpower shortages for non-degree technicians, especially those involved in energy audits, and in the operatorship, repair and maintenance of large thermal systems such as chiller plants and boiler systems. PE2 emphasized that no formal training and certification programs exist for technicians related to energy efficiency skills such as the use of energy measurement instruments and the repair of large air-conditioning equipment such as chillers. PE2 likewise raised the need to reduce the cost barrier preventing the training and certification of measurement and verification (M&V) professionals.
Leading both organizations in the MoU signing ceremony were UniEd President Atty. Jose Maria A. Ochave and PE2 President Alexander Ablaza. Witnessing the signing were UniEd COO Noel M. Cortez, PE2 Vice President for External Affairs Theresa Acedillo-Lapuz, UniEd international partnerships officer Alejandro Jose A. Tuazon and PE2 secretariat manager Hazel D. Planco.
Under the MoU, UniEd and PE2 will jointly develop initiatives which may include program development, program delivery, construction and development of infrastructure facilities, career development programs for students and faculty and collaboration on research development and extension projects.
PE2 is a non-profit organization of energy efficiency market stakeholders driven by the shared objective of mainstreaming energy efficiency as the economy’s first fuel. Reorganized in 2016 to embrace more sectoral players, PE2 builds on the 11-year history of ESCOPhil, which was established in 2005.
