Sen Gatchalian thanks PE2 in push for EE&C Act
PASAY CITY, 20 May 2019 — Senate Committee on Energy Chairman, Senator Sherwin T. Gatchalian, recognized the helpful efforts of the Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance (PE2) as both chambers of the 17th Congress were crafting and finalizing the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act during plenary remarks delivered during the Future Energy Show 2019 held here earlier today.
Senator Gatchalian said that the passage of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act closes almost three decades of pushing this legislative measure, supported in the recent years with resource expertise from PE2.
During the same event, PE2 president Alexander Ablaza and vice president for external affairs Ruth Yu-Owen met Senator Gatchalian and the secretariat staff of the Senate Committee on Energy, led by Atty. Theresa Iris Maris P. Guanzon.
In an earlier Senate press statement, Senator Gatchalian said: “Finally, we have now taken a major leap forward in realizing efficient ways of utilizing energy in the country that are attuned to acceptable international standards. We are grateful to President Rodrigo Duterte for making this possible when he signed Republic Act No. 11285 or the Energy Efficiency Act. The signing of this landmark law is very timely, especially now that our growing economy needs more power supply in the next few years. With this law, the additional power supply will not come in the form of new power plants, but in savings from energy efficiency and conservation.”
PE2 was an association partner of Terrapinn Pte Ltd (Singapore) for the Future Energy Show 2019 and the Asian Power & Energy Summit 2019.
