PNOC-RC invites DOE, PE2 to discuss EE in energy roundtable

TAGUIG CITY, 4 December 2019 – The PNOC Renewables Corporation (PNOC-RC) invited the Department of Energy (DOE) and the Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance (PE2) to lead energy efficiency (EE) discussions during a roundtable event held at the Energy Center earlier today.

Director Patrick T. Aquino of the DOE Energy Utilization and Management Bureau presented the salient features of Republic Act 11285 and updated the attendees with the approval, publication and effectivity of the law’s implementing rules and regulations.

PE2 president Alexander Ablaza highlighted the need to mobilize private capital to bridge a P 12 trillion EE capital gap through 2040. He explained that some P 8 trillion in off-balance sheet capital will have to flow through energy service company (ESCO) performance contracts, public-private partnership (PPP) transactions, joint venture (JV) agreements and large-scale Government-led retrofit programs. PE2 was likewise represented by PE2 corporate secretary Maria Concepcion P. Simundac and PE2 member services and communications manager Luigi G. Eusebio.

PNOC-RC director Maria Carmina E. Cruz and other PNOC-RC directors hosted the event.

Usec. Maria Catalina E. Cabral of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) also attended the roundtable discussions.

PE2 member Meralco Energy (MServ) was also represented by Cecile G. Marvilla and Lester R. Pelaez.

Aside from energy efficiency, the forum also featured topics related to waste-to-energy, solar, hydropower, geothermal, debt financing, and financing dispute settlement.

PNOC-RC is an active regular member of PE2.
