PE2 updates InfraAsia on PH EE market

MANDALUYONG CITY, 16 August 2024 – The Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance (PE2) received the visiting Singapore-based team of Infrastructure Asia (InfraAsia) in a meeting held earlier today in this city.

PE2 president and Climargy CEO Alexander Ablaza met InfraAsia Executive Director Lavan Thiru and his team members, Devin Chan, Shaila Narendran and Niki Sim to swap updates on energy efficiency technology, policy and market developments since their last meeting over two years ago.

PE2 shared with InfraAsia how the policy framework under Republic Act 11285 has evolved in the last 5 years, how the energy service company (ESCO) market continues to grow and how government is gradually enabling innovative procurement modalities to engage ESCO services for public sector energy efficiency projects. Ablaza also reported how the energy efficiency market remains hopeful that the recently passed Republic Act 12009, the New Government Procurement Act, will allow government entities to evaluate life cycle cost and total cost of ownership for the procurement energy-efficiency technologies, solutions or services.

InfraAsia emphasized that energy efficiency is a fundamental Asia-wide strategy of decarbonizing the energy sector by scaling clean energy supply and optimizing energy demand. Thiru shared information on the energy efficiency retrofit of DBS Newton Green in Singapore and how the garment industry in Bangladesh is adopting more energy efficiency technologies and practices. InfraAsia also explained the potential to replicate district cooling systems and Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) contracts in Southeast Asian markets such as the Philippines.

InfraAsia is a project facilitation office that enables good-fit solutions from companies and institutions based in Singapore in addressable infrastructure sub-segments in Asia, catalyzing project development, financing, and execution opportunities to meet the region’s growing needs. InfraAsia does so by bringing together industry stakeholders across the infrastructure value chain, from financiers to solution providers, to explore sustainable infrastructure opportunities in the region and facilitate the access of private capital into sustainable infrastructure projects.
