PASAY CITY, 19 September 2019 – The Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance (PE2), working in partnership with the Philippine Green Building Council (PhilGBC), reached out to green building market stakeholders who focus on the country’s hospitality sector, by promoting awareness on the newly passed Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EE&C) Act, and the availability of off-balance sheet financing opportunities, such as energy service company (ESCO) performance contracting.

PE2 president Alexander Ablaza spoke earlier today at PhilGBC’s Building Green – Hospitality Forum 2019, held at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City. The PE2 presentation included a macroeconomic overview on why energy efficiency should be tapped as mainstreamed “indigenous” resource in the country’s energy mix, and how the new EE&C Act, would help the economy reel back from 29 years of slipping back into the voluntary energy efficiency market regime. Ablaza explained that the new law would certainly accelerate the greening of the hospitality sector, by enforcing obligations on most hotels and medium and large energy consumers, and on a parallel track, enabling fiscal incentives and ESCO contracts for energy efficiency upgrades in existing building stock in the country.

The PhilGBC event was opened by PhilGBC Vice-Chair Rowena Ramos and keynoted by Tourism Undersecretary Arturo P. Boncato, Jr. Conference sessions covered topics such as green building design, products, technologies, services, financing, best practices and sustainability programs specifically for the hospitality sector.

PE2 members Daikin Airconditioning Philippines and Republic Cement and Building Materials were key sponsors of the conference.
