PE2 shares EE&C bill updates in ECCP’s Energy Smart 2018

PARAÑAQUE CITY, Philippines, 25 October 2018 – The Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance (PE2) shared with clean energy market stakeholders encouraging positive developments related to the legislative process for the pending Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EE&C) bill during the Energy Smart Philippines 2018 conference held here today.

Invited by the European Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines (ECCP) to speak on the EE&C bill, PE2 president Alexander Ablaza explained the how the proposed measure has been repeatedly refiled and refined since it was introduced in the early 1990s during the term of the 8th Congress. Ablaza also underscored the value of upholding the long-term availment of an appropriate package of fiscal incentives that would enable scaled-up third-party capital flows toward portfolios of energy efficiency projects even while the government rationalizes incentive frameworks under a comprehensive tax reform program. PE2 vice president for external affairs Ruth Yu-Owen, who spoke on behalf of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Committee of the EU-Philippines Business Network (EPBN), presented EPBN’s energy advocacy issues and recommendations relating to renewable energy and energy efficiency market development in the country.

Energy Smart Philippines 2018 was the 10th edition of this event since the ECCP launched the first Philippine Energy Efficiency Forum in 2010. The annual event is aimed at building a sustainable energy future which requires efficient use of energy and a shift to the use of renewable energy. It showcases several initiatives which have been launched by the Philippine government, international development organizations, non-government organizations and even private enterprises to mainstream energy efficiency technologies as well as the use of renewable energy.

PE2 member firm Delta Dore was among the silver sponsors of the day-long conference.
