PE2 shares EEC bill journey in BSI roundtable to foster partnerships

PASIG CITY, 26 March 2025 –Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance (PE2) president Alexander Ablaza and Vice President for External Affairs Theresa Acedillo Lapuz both shared the Alliance’s experience in pushing for the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Bill during a roundtable discussion “Pioneers of Progress – Power of Partnerships,” organized by PE2 member firm BSI Group Philippines and held earlier today at the Marco Polo Ortigas. The event was aimed at gathering experience and views with the objective of building collaborative opportunities toward positive change in society.

Various business chambers, industry associations, civil society groups and the academe took turns in sharing their missions, initiatives and success stories in transforming society.

PE2’s Ablaza and Lapuz told its peers that its most prominent success story was the convening of like-minded energy efficiency market stakeholders to proactively support the legislative process for the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Bill, which was repeatedly refiled from the 8th to the 17th Congresses. The passage of Republic Act 11285 in April 2019 closed 29 years of waiting for a comprehensive, inclusive law which now sets mandates and regulatory measures for the way all energy end-users manage and utilize energy.

BSI Group Philippines Managing Director Ava Taniajura welcomed the attendees with a stage-setting aspiration to build partnerships. She said, “Together, we shape a sustainable future. We learned how energy efficiency and net zero actions prepare us for a better future. The journey is tough, and we always experience roadblocks, but persistence and focus can help us achieve our goals, such as the implementation of important regulation. We learned that decarbonization efforts are driven by continuous collaboration, strategic partnerships, access to technology, and measuring impact. We learned how communicating our ESG initiatives in a way that is understandable to all can push forward our sustainable development goals.”

Ping Manongdo of the Southeast Asia Corporate Decarbonization Exchange (CDx) steered the exchange of ideas as roundtable moderator.
