QUEZON CITY, 1 August 2019 – The Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance (PE2) was invited by the Center for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technology (CREST), in partnership with the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, ETC Action Group and the Global Catholic Climate Movement, to share its energy efficiency (EE) expertise in a technical conference titled “Let’s Talk Climate Solutions” held earlier today at the QCX Museum.

PE2 trustee and Training Committee Chair Bienvenido C. Gonzales delivered a presentation on the industry trends in the energy efficiency sector, especially as the Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EE&C) Act takes full effect.

The conference was organized by CREST to celebrate the different citizen’s-led climate solutions and review the risks of large-scale technology solutions promoted by fossil-fuel industries and multinational corporations. CREST also launched during the event an open and inclusive Climate Action Partnership to encourage deep reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions at the city and institutional-levels.

The conference gathered leaders from various stakeholders in the climate change discourse – local government units, faith-based institutions, civil society, academe, youth, and industry. Discussions focused on two biggest greenhouse gas emitting sectors – energy and the agriculture, forestry and other land use (AFOLU). The event was designed to: (a) highlight the climate call of the IPCC 1.5 Report and Laudato Si’; (b) celebrate clean and affordable climate solutions while exposing false climate technology solutions; (c) identify policy recommendations to mainstream climate solutions; and, (d) encourage multi-sectoral partnership for climate action.

Climate Action Partnership (CAP) was launched to enhance direct collaboration between public and private sector actors. The partnership aims to drive up domestic efforts and pursue deep GHG emission reduction at the city, community, institution and/or household-levels. The partnership is inclusive and open to all stakeholders who commit to reduce their own GHG emissions and at the same time, are open to support other partners enhance their own climate ambitions.

CAP invites local government units, businesses, schools, project developers, service providers, civil society organizations, youth and young professionals and committed individuals. The partnership will provide avenues and opportunities for easier collaboration and knowledge- and skill-sharing between partners. CAP will not have any governing structure. It will not have legal representation. Its primary goal is to promote and support partners’ climate actions to achieve deep reduction of domestic/ internal GHG emissions. CREST intends to provide the facilitator role of the partnership in its initial years.
