TAGUIG CITY, 11 December 2019 – The Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance (PE2) expressed interest earlier today to support Energy Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi in his new role as member of the Global Commission for Urgent Action on Energy Efficiency, was convened by the International Energy Agency (IEA) on 24 June 2019 at the IEA’s 4th annual Global Conference on Energy Efficiency in Dublin, Ireland. The Commission currently has 23 members and is composed of national leaders, current and former ministers, top business executives and global thought leaders.

In the PE2 letter of 11 December 2019, PE2 president Alexander Ablaza congratulated the Energy Secretary for accepting the global post and said, “[Sec. Cusi’s] participation in the Global Commission [for Urgent Action on Energy Efficiency] allows the Philippines to show leadership and committed action of the Philippines in transforming the energy efficiency market through policy measures and other market reforms. The country’s successful passage of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act, and the DOE’s recent approval of its implementing rules and regulations, send not only an effective market signal to all energy end-users and prospective investors in the Philippines, but just as well provide beaming inspiration for other economies to emulate under a broader global call for immediate scale-up action.”

PE2 told Sec. Cusi that the multi-sectoral Alliance stands ready to provide knowledge support to his participation in the Global Commission. Ablaza explained, “Working alongside DOE’s Energy Utilization and Management Bureau, we are ready to share scale-up strategies and ideas drawn from the international and local market experience of PE2 members.”
