PE2 keynotes MHI forum for efficient chillers and engines
MAKATI CITY, 2 October 2025 - Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance (PE2) president Alexander Ablaza delivered the keynote message to open a technical seminar on energy-efficient chillers and engine solutions organized by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd (MHI) and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Thermal Systems, Ltd. Entitled “Maximize Energy Savings and Minimize Environmental Impact,” the event was held earlier today at the Dusit Thani Hotel.
Aware of PE2's active contributions to the dissemination and implementation of energy-saving technologies in the Philippines, MHI invited Ablaza to share insights on the current state of energy efficiency initiatives, legal frameworks, and the growth of the energy service company (ESCO) market in the Philippines.
Ablaza explained that the Philippine Government definition of an ESCO is largely consistent with that of the Global ESCO Network. He said, “In this market, ESCOs accept some degree of financial risk directly linked to the energy performance of the energy efficiency measures.”
“The ESCO market in the Philippines has been growing steadily from a modest 15 companies in 2015 to 67 as of September 2025,” Ablaza declared. The Philippine ESCO market is now among the fast-growing ESCO markets in Southeast Asia, which includes Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. He explained that the local ESCO market is growing in maturity and business model sophistication, with district cooling systems and cooling-as-a-service being mainstreamed in the last two years.
Later in the seminar, MHI dove deep into the technological features of its high-efficiency turbo chillers. It likewise introduced a triple hybrid power generation system that combines battery storage, diesel generators, and solar power.
Participants of the MHI Group seminar included companies with factories in the Manila and Calabarzon areas, consultants and design firms.
MHI was represented by a large delegation from Japan, representing the Global Marketing Group and Business Strategy Solutions Department of its Business Promotion Division.
