PE2 convenes best-attended GMM and board meetings as Alliance prepares for “new normal”

MAKATI CITY, 26 May 2020 – The Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance (PE2) convened earlier today its best-attended annual General Membership Meeting (GMM) and special meetings of the Board of Trustees in its first-ever virtual meetings. Over two-thirds of its regular and associate membership and 100% of its elected board of trustees participated actively in their respective meetings.

During the GMM, the general membership re-elected 14 incumbent trustees, and welcomed Mitchell Joel Saldaña of Schneider Electric Philippines to replace Reynaldo Q. Del Mundo. Elected to the Board of Trustees were: Ablaza, Alexander; Acedillo-Lapuz, Theresa; Cordova, Felix Richard A.; De Jesus, Jose O.; Dela Cruz, Ledicia T., Gonzales, Bienvenido C.; Marquez, Raymond A.; Peñalosa, Rodolfo R.; Ruby, Martin; Saldaña, Mitchell Joel; Simundac, Maria Concepcion P.; Srinivasan, Jagannathan; Stewart, Samuel West; Torres, Ronaldo R.; and, Yu-Owen, Ruth.

The vast assembly of members likewise granted the Board of Trustees the authority to define voting rights across the 5 membership categories created by the board during a previous meeting on 28 June 2016, as well as approve a policy measure to set the manner by which quorum is determined during GMMs.

PE2 president Alexander Ablaza delivered his semi-annual report, which covered PE2’s activities, initiatives and accomplishments relating to the specific guidelines under the implementing rules and regulations of Republic Act 11285, advocacy work relating to fiscal incentives, support to the Committees on Energy of both chambers of the 18th Congress, its position on energy efficiency as economic stimulus, and its collaboration with foreign-assisted programs and other energy efficiency market stakeholders.

New member firms, Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation, AV Garcia Power Systems Corporation, Green Bay Energy Solutions Inc, iControlTech, Inc, Indra Philippines Inc, Solid Cement Corporation (CEMEX), and ABB Inc, took turns to introduce their companies and explain the energy efficiency thrust in their operations.

Preparing for the “new normal,” the board approved new resolutions that would allow more meetings via remote communication and online banking transactions. During the post-GMM organizational meeting the following officers were elected to a two-year term:

  • Alexander Ablaza, President
  • Ruth Yu-Owen, Vice President for Internal Affairs
  • Theresa Acedillo-Lapuz, Vice President for External Affairs
  • Ma. Concepcion P. Simundac, Corporate Secretary
  • Raymond A. Marquez, Treasurer.

The board also unanimously approved a 60-day extension of the penalty-free grace period for member firms to settle their FY2020 dues.
