QUEZON CITY, 12 December 2019 – The Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance (PE2) and the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) met at the office of Hi-Cool Engineering earlier today to kick off a brainstorm on collaborative opportunities related to the implementation of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EE&C) Act.

PE2 was represented by its president Alexander Ablaza, and secretariat manager Luigi Eusebio. PBSP was represented by its Director for Operations, Elvin Ivan Y. Uy, and Manager for Environment, Kathleen Almonte.

Uy explained that, taking into account the effects of climate change, the Environment Program of PBSP focuses on contributing to increase the resiliency of natural resources and enhance the ability of communities to adapt to climate change effects, while exploring opportunities for mitigation initiatives. PBSP learned about PE2’s work related to the passage and implementation of the EE&C Act during the recent Future Cities Forum 2019, and expressed interest to collaborate with PE2, especially to help target sectors of the economy comply with the new law.

Ablaza welcomed the early interest of PBSP in the area of EE&C and explained that there will persist several information, policy, financial and even behavioral gaps to bridge as the country aspires to mainstream energy efficiency as the country’s first fuel. He said, “PE2 is thrilled to explore collaborative opportunities with PBSP, not only to increase awareness among its 260 members on the obligations under the EE&C law, but more importantly to mobilize development funding to bridge implementational gaps and even engage the hard-to-reach stakeholders in the energy end-use market.”

PBSP is the largest business-led NGO at the forefront of strategic corporate citizenship and business sector leadership, contributing to sustainable development and poverty reduction. Established in 1970, PBSP remains a consultant and partner of choice of companies and donors.

PBSP scales up impact by adopting the Collective Impact strategy to solve large, complex, systemic problems. PBSP organizes Platforms for Collective Engagements (PLACEs) to ensure alignment and sustainability of initiatives by multiple stakeholders.

Responding to the changing landscape of CSR, PBSP’s brand of corporate citizenship taps into the core business competencies of companies and promotes inclusive business as a strategy. PBSP also continues to strategically engage companies through social investment, responsible business practices, and philanthropy.

PBSP creates sustainable solutions to societal problems in its core program areas which are Health, Education, Environment, and Livelihood and Enterprise Development. It also provides off-the-shelf options for engagement of companies and their employees.

With a proven track record, PBSP provides end-to-end services in development consulting which include project and grants management, events and backroom management.
