PASAY CITY, 28 November 2019 – The Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance (PE2) and the Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines, Inc. (IIEE) executed earlier today a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to jointly develop the Energy Roadmap 2050.  The long-term roadmap is aimed at: [a] defining the energy needs (generation, transmission and distribution) of the Philippines through 2050; [b] providing recommendations to ensure sufficiency, reliability and stability of energy supply in the country; and, [c] proposing changes to applicable laws and/or regulations.

PE2 president Alexander Ablaza and IIEE national president Cirilo C. Calibjo signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organizations. PE2 trustee Theresa Acedillo-Lapuz PE2 manager Luigi G. Eusebio, IIEE vice president for external affairs Rodrigo T. Pecolera, IIEE vice president for internal affairs Eugene F. Araullo, and IIEE national secretary Allan Anthony P. Alvarez witnessed the MOA signing, which was held during the opening ceremony of the IIEE 44th Annual National Convention at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia Complex.

Following the PE2 and IIEE meeting during the Power & Electricity World event in May 2019, both organizations sought to forge a cooperation agreement for the crafting of Energy Roadmap 2050, especially after the enactment of Republic Act 11285 and the approval of its implementing rules and regulations. IIEE believes that the implementation of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EE&C) Act will impact the electric industry market, including its electrical practitioners, designers, electrical equipment dealers, service providers, academe, contractors, and consumers.

It is believed that an alignment of long-term energy efficiency strategies and action plans would help ensure that energy infrastructure systems are properly evaluated, designed, standardized, integrated and well maintained to ensure that they remain safe, efficient and do not create untoward or negative issues in utility grid or customer facilities.

IIEE also offered PE2 access to its resources as techno-consultant, adviser, policy advocate and partner toward the progressive implementation of the EE&C Act.
