PCCI, PE2 explore energy efficiency collab amid oil market volatility

TAGUIG CITY, 3 March 2026 – The Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance (PE2) met with the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) in their office today to explore potential areas of collaboration in advancing energy efficiency initiatives among the Chamber’s member enterprises and affiliated organizations.

PE2 president Alexander Ablaza and PCCI president Ferdinand “Perry” A. Ferrer led their teams in an exchange of ideas on how energy efficiency can be positioned to cushion the impact of a highly volatile oil market amid the Iran-Israel conflict. Ablaza was joined by PE2 vice president for external affairs Theresa Acedillo Lapuz, while Ferrer as accompanied by PCCI director for energy and power David Chua, PCCI energy and power committee member Jonathan Aldaba, PCCI assistant secretary-general Rhuby Conel and PCCI energy and power secretariat-in-charge Angela Bea de Luna.

Against the backdrop of the ongoing Iran crisis and its potential impact on global energy markets, the discussion focused on practical, near-term solutions to help mitigate the impacts of electricity and fuel price volatility on businesses and even households. In particular, demand-side management strategies and energy storage solutions were highlighted as viable measures to mitigate the effects of possible price spikes.

PE2 cited the need to broaden the awareness and enforcement of Republic Act 11285, more popularly known as the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act, especially for the MSMEs now captured by the reduced consumption threshold of designated establishments. The Alliance likewise sought to increase the awareness and capacities for larger designated establishments on the opportunity to accelerate energy efficiency upgrades through the energy service company (ESCO) performance contracting model, especially for space cooling systems. PE2 also suggested efforts to build a culture of energy monitoring even among households and small businesses.

The meeting underscored a shared commitment to strengthening public-private collaboration in promoting energy efficiency and resilience within the Philippine business community.
