QUEZON CITY, 21 January 2020 – The Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance (PE2) delivered earlier today an hour-long lecture on the Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EE&C) Act and how this new law can help bridge a huge EE&C capital gap through 2040. PE2 president Alexander Ablaza was a key presenter in the masterclass co-organized by Exora Technologies Inc. and Advanced Energy Technologies/Renewables Plus Co., Inc. (AET), in cooperation with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Ateneo Intellectual Property Office. The knowledge event was held at the Areté Building in the Ateneo de Manila University campus.

Leading the roster of presenters was Usec. Felix William B. Fuentebella of the Department of Energy.

Upon the request of the organizers, Ablaza delivered a quick introduction on PE2, emphasized the imperative to deploy energy efficiency as the economy’s first fuel, introduced the main features of Republic Act 11285, and presented opportunities for the government and the private sector to collaborate in the financing and implementation of energy efficiency projects for public sector facilities. Ablaza also discussed the various financing modalities, and how innovative mechanisms such as energy service company (ESCO) performance contracting, public-private partnership transactions and other off-balance sheet capital flows can contribute significantly to the country’s targeted PHP 12 trillion EE&C capital mobilization through 2040.

The audience included participants from both the government and private sector.

The masterclass was designed to partially address the lack of streamlined processes between government agencies and private sector, which continues to make it harder for electricity users to gain access to available resources. This masterclass aims to provide end-use clients with knowledge on how to make use of the opportunities available in the energy sector in order to save money for their respective companies, while complying with Philippine laws such as the EE&C Act.

AET is an active member of PE2. Its principal, Samuel West Stewart, currently serves as Vice President for Internal Affairs of PE2, as well as a member of its Board of Trustees.

PE2 member services and communications manager Luigi Eusebio likewise represented the Alliance in the masterclass event.
