PASAY CITY—The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) reaffirmed its commitment to energy efficiency (EE) as a driver of the country's economic growth, joining representatives from government, business, education, finance, and consumer sectors in taking a pledge to mainstream EE as the "first fuel" of the economy. The ERC, represented by its Chairperson and CEO Atty. Monalisa C. Dimalanta, made the pledge to sustainable energy strategies and consumption during the Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance Inc. (PE2)'s Energy Efficiency Day 2025 on 20 March 2025.
In her keynote message, Chairperson Dimalanta spoke about the Commission's initiatives to innovate and transform through its regulatory strategies to foster EE among both industry players and consumers. Chairperson Dimalanta cited the existing and evolving regulations of the Commission to promote smarter energy use, including ERC's policies on the Time-of-Use (TOU) Pricing, the Interruptible Load Program (ILP), the Net-Metering Program, and on the adoption of Electric Vehicles (EVs).
Recognizing that the Philippines stands at the cusp of an energy efficiency revolution, she emphasized the critical role of Distribution Utilities (DUs) and Electric Cooperatives (ECs), not just as power providers, but as enablers of a more efficient and sustainable energy future in the country.
