Clark, Metro Angeles businesses invite PE2 to raise EE, ESCO awareness

CLARK FREEPORT ZONE, Pampanga, 10 October 2025 – The Metro Angeles Chamber of Commerce & Industry Inc. (MACCII) invited Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance (PE2) president Alexander Ablaza to speak on the decarbonization of commercial and industrial establishments through energy efficiency (EE) during the MACCII Green Summit 2025 held earlier today at the Widus Hotel.

The PE2 head reminded the audience that commercial, industrial and transport businesses consuming at least 50,001 kWh in fuel and electricity annually now carry obligations as designated establishments under the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act. He reported that the Department of Energy had 67 registered and certified energy service companies (ESCO) as of September 2025 to help designated establishments audit baseline energy consumption, as well as propose, install, operate and maintain new equipment to deliver energy savings to a facility.

Ablaza explained to the business community of Metro Angeles that energy savings can be used to finance EE projects implemented by ESCOs and third-party project developers under shared savings performance contracts. He offered an example, “Let’s say that an ESCO project reduces annual electricity bill from P100 million to P75 million. Out of 25% savings, P20 million can be used to pay the ESCO or project developer. The remaining savings, which normally escalate due to rise in energy tariff, are to be enjoyed by end-user.”

The MACCII officials who welcomed PE2 to the event included its Chairman Arsenio N. Valdes, President Elizabeth Carlos-Timbol, Ablaza, Vice President for Internal Affairs Mario TP. Lazatin, Vice President for Economic Affairs Marco Fernando L. Ng, and Director Roland D. Peña.

Other MACCII Green Summit resource persons included Balibago Waterworks System President Criselle P. Alejandro, Ecoloop Director Angela Valencia and Climate Change Commission Commissioner Albert Dela Cruz Sr.

The MACCII Green Summit aims to gather industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators to explore sustainable business practices and environmental initiatives that drive economic growth while protecting our planet. The 2025 edition of the MACCII Green Summit focused on energy management, renewable solutions, and sustainable industrial practices.

Established in 1964 by the late Abelardo G. Tinio, MACCII is the leading business organization and the respected voice of industry in Metro Angeles.
