CCC invites PE2 to discuss EE inputs to Paris Agreement contributions

QUEZON CITY, Philippines, 4 July 2018 – Secretary Emmanuel M. de Guzman of the Climate Change Commission (CCC) invited Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance (PE2) president Alexander Ablaza to attend next week’s Policy Round Table Discussion under the ongoing National Policy Review on Energy (NPRE) to set the measures, targets, milestones, and initiatives as stated in the Philippines’ Nationally Determined Contributions under the Paris Agreement, and to eventually recommend a policy framework for consideration of the National Government Agencies, Congress, the private sector, and relevant civil society organizations. While the upcoming round table discussion will involve the active participation of other energy sector players, CCC and its advisors continue to gather the inputs of PE2 on the energy efficiency (EE) aspects of the policy framework.

The NPRE is a program of activities implemented pursuant to CCC Resolution 2016-001 (Development of a Clear Policy on Coal-Fired Power Plants in Pursuit of a Low Carbon Development Pathway for the Philippines), and aimed at coming up with a comprehensive climate-resilient and low-carbon energy policy framework based on the synthesis of comments from a series of consultations, dialogues, and discussions with energy market stakeholders.

Since September 2017, PE2 has been actively supporting the review of the NPRE inception report and providing EE-related inputs through active participation in the NPRE fora, focus group discussions and consultative workshops.
