ADB receives APEIA proposal to hold regional ESCO workshop and meeting in Manila during ACEF 2019, PE2 to co-host

ASIAN DEVELOPMENT BANK, Mandaluyong City, 14 January 2019 – The Steering Committee and Secretariat of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) -led Asia Clean Energy Forum 2019 (ACEF 2019) received the proposal of the Asia-Pacific ESCO Industry Alliance (APEIA) earlier today for the recently organized regional group to hold a deep-dive workshop on energy service company (ESCO) and energy efficiency (EE) finance as an integral, public event during ACEF 2019, which is scheduled to be held in Manila during the week of 17-21 June 2019.

In a proposal to the ACEF 2019 organizers, APEIA co-chair Alexander Ablaza outlined the topical scope of its deep-dive workshop. The day-long workshop will be kicked-off with a morning session on the persistent financing gap in most energy efficiency markets in the region and how the ESCO performance contract business model can be strengthened and mainstreamed to accelerate energy efficiency market transformation in commercial and industrial end-use sectors across ready Asian markets. The afternoon session will feature country ESCO market presentations, which should detail universal and country-specific challenges and opportunities of growing the ESCO market in Asia-Pacific. As part of the workshop, APEIA will also invite the Energy Studies Institute of the National University of Singapore to present the findings of the ADB Institute-assisted study on energy efficiency financing and market-based instruments.

APEIA has also planned to hold its Third Meeting in Manila during the week of ACEF 2019. APEIA now represents the ESCO associations of 7 country markets, which include China, India, Japan, Korea, the Philippines, Singapore and Taiwan.

As the Philippine-based member organization, the Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance (PE2), likewise headed by Ablaza, will be co-hosting the APEIA events in Manila in June 2019.

Ablaza encouraged member firms of each country association to actively participate in the APEIA workshop during the week of ACEF 2019.
