PE2 partners with DOE to celebrate Energy Efficiency Day 2026

TAGUIG CITY, 29 July 2026 — The Philippine Energy Efficiency Alliance (PE2) partnered with the Department of Energy (DOE) to hold the 6th edition of the annual Energy Efficiency Day to convene government leaders, industry experts, international development partners, and private sector stakeholders. Energy Efficiency Day 2026 was held as a Day 1 session of the Philippine Conference on Energy Efficiency and Conservation (PCEEC) 2026, DOE’s two-day event kicked off today at Shangri-La The Fort, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

Centered on the conference theme, "Building Greener and Smarter: Advancing Energy-Efficient, Low-Carbon Buildings through Policy and Smart Technologies," the event reinforced the critical role of energy efficiency in achieving the country's sustainability and economic development goals.

The program opened with welcome messages from PE2 leadership, followed by keynote addresses from the Department of Energy (DOE) Undersecretary Mario C. Marasigan, H.E. Anna Ferry, Ambassador, Embassy of Sweden in Manila, and GIZ representatives, Oleg Ditkovskiy and Junianto M. , highlighting the importance of accelerating compliance with the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act, strengthening regional cooperation, and advancing innovative energy service models.

In his opening remarks, PE2 president Alexander Ablaza offered six policy recommendations: (a) Sustain the decades of declining energy intensities now being reversed by new loads unforeseen in the early 2000s; (b) Aside from demand-side energy efficiency, the economy should explore feasible supply-side energy efficiency interventions; (c) Full enforcement of penal provisions of RA 11285; (d) Vastly improve the responsiveness of fiscal incentives under the Energy Efficiency & Conservation Act and CREATE MORE frameworks to the commercial viability needs of third-party or off-balance sheet investments in ESCO projects; (e) Build competencies and access of designated establishments (especially commercial and industrial end-users) and even government entities to ESCO performance contracts and Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) agreements; and, (f) Deploy more development funds and grants to remove persistent barriers, build ESCO capacities and de-risk project preparation and investments.

The ceremonial induction of the new PE2 Board of Trustees and the Energy Efficiency Pledge further underscored the alliance's commitment to promoting a culture of energy efficiency across all sectors.

The afternoon sessions featured compelling energy efficiency case studies presented by Amb. Joseph M. Yap, Chairman of the Board and President, Philippine DCS Development (PDDC); Alberto De Los Reyes Jr., President, EHS Lens Philippines; Dr. Mark Gil S. Verzola, Corporate Energy Director, Manila Water Company; and, Dan Yarcia, Head of Building and Energy Management, Globe Telecom. Each end-user presentation showcased how energy efficiency initiatives are improving operational performance, reducing carbon emissions, and supporting long-term sustainability. These real-world success stories illustrated the growing business case for energy-efficient technologies and practices in commercial and industrial establishments, as well as the lessons drawn from a joint venture between a property developer and an energy service company (ESCO) to build, own and operate a district cooling system.

A highlight of the event was the panel discussion on strengthening market demand of the commercial and industrial (C&I) sectors for energy efficiency technologies, ESCO services, and investments. Atty. Monalisa C. Dimalanta, Senior Partner, Puyat, Jacinto & Santos (PJS Law) moderated the discussion. Joining the panel were: Carlos Lorenzo L. Vega, Vice President and Chief Customer Engagement Officer, First Gen; Redin Aliling, Commercial Leader of Professional Business, Signify Philippines; David J. Morgado, Senior Energy Specialist, Asian Development Bank; Paula dela Llana-Nunag, Digital Energy & Commercial Enterprise Director, Schneider Electric Philippines; and, Stanley Siahetiong, Energy Transition Lead, Shell Pilipinas. They swapped views on proposed interventions for the C&I sector to pull energy efficiency demand for ESCO investments and services and directly-purchased equipment and systems from the local, regional and global EE/ESCO markets.

The event concluded with inspiring keynote presentations from Maria Socorro Isabelle V. Aragon GoBio of Robinsons Land Corporation, Amb. Dr. Smiljana Knez of the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia, and Rowena T. Naguit of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA). Their messages emphasized that energy efficiency is not only a strategy for reducing energy consumption but also nation-building, as well as a key driver of economic competitiveness, sustainable urban development and national resilience.

Energy Efficiency Day 2026 affirmed PE2's call for multi-sectoral collaboration through its event partnership with DOE for PCEEC 2026. Now on its sixth year, the Energy Efficiency Day conference and exhibitions were supported by PE2’s active member firms: Schneider Electric Philippines, Shell Pilipinas, Signify Philippines, EconoServ Solutions International, AdventEnergy and AdventUpgrade Solar, Total Renewable and Energy Efficiency Solutions, Globe Telecom, iONTEK Power Solutions and the Italian Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines, Hi-Cool Engineering, First Gen, Nayon Kontrol Systems, and BSI Philippines.

PE2 expressed its sincere appreciation for all PCEEC efforts led by DOE’s Secretary Sharon S. Garin, Undersecretary Mario C. Marasigan, Director Patrick T. Aquino, and Division Chief Dr. Daniel Collin Jornales, and the entire staff of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Program Management and Technology Promotion Division.
